RaNae’s latest news
Here’s the latest news from RaNae:
I’m off to teach this weekend at the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild in (where else) Ann Arbor, Michigan. If you’re around, come visit me!
My new pattern Summertime is now available in the June/July issue of Quilters Newsletter. It’s a simple introduction to the spiral mandala quilts in my new book Magnificent Spiral Mandala Quilts (which this blog is all about). Click here to order the kit.
Follow my adventures as I learn to machine quilt using my Bernina 640 and Bernina Stitch Regulator attachment. Here are four of my current “practice sandwiches.” I’m going to practice-quilt these, then assemble the quilted blocks into a quilt. To read more, click here.
Stay tuned for news about when my episode of The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson will be available for viewing (at the earliest, sometime in the latter part of 2011). Sign up for the newsletter (click here or on “Newsletter” at right) so I can let you know. I’m creating a beautiful new limited-edition spiral mandala quilt kit especially for the show — watch for it!
Also mark your calendar for my new Christmas tree skirt pattern coming out in the special holiday issue of Quilters Newsletter this August. There will be a fabric kit, and I expect them to go fast!
Click here to share my favorite recipes on the Spiromaniacs blog. (Be sure to scroll down to see them all.)

Latest Solar Powered Mobile phone By Yana Moskalenko

According to designbuzz
“The designer intends for the Solar Powered Cellphone to have a classic body type with black and blue being the two basic color schemes on offer. 114mm x 58.3 mm x 10.1 mm cellphone would weigh roughly 90 grams and would feature a multi-sensor TFT display with a 240 x 320 pixels resolution and 17,000,000 color scheme.
The phone would be compatible with HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100 (10.2 MB) and GSM 850/900/1800/1900 with a talktime of 3 hours on the GSM network and 30 minutes on the 3G HSDPA networks.
Since the phone would run on photovoltaic charging, it could very well charge itself while it is still in use, although the designer notes that it would have a standby time of over 200 hours as well as a music player runtime of over half an hour”.

‘A Game of Thrones’ Author George R. R. Martin Announces Long-Awaited Latest Novel
A very long six years have gone by since George R. R. Martin fans have been able to pleasure their senses with his epic tales of fantasy. Well, the wait is over..almost.
Book number 5, or Dance with Dragons hits shelves July 12 as part of the series, A Song of Ice and Fire. You can certainly expect a marathon of wordplay, topping out at over 900 pages. To Martin, and fans alike, a lengthy masterpiece does not come as a surprise; book number three of the series, A Storm of Swords is over 1,000 pages.
Martin’s series of mythical tales of civil war and exile have created a following all over the world. Fans describe the series as “addictive” thus a six-year gap can be very frustrating for die-hard fans. The works of A Song of Ice and Fire have been translated into over 20 languages and the agonizing wait for the latest addition has been felt in message boards and fan blogs across the globe. The other parts of the series include A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows.
While desperately awaiting the arrival of Dance with Dragons, fans can follow the HBO series that is based on Martin’s series, which will air on April 17. The first episode of A Game of Thrones will open the gates for the television adaptation.
As for the wait, Martin told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m not sure I have a good answer. If I did, I would have taken less time.”
The wait for Martin’s latest work feels very much like the wait we all experienced for the 2008 Guns n’ Roses album Chinese Democracy. Lets hope Martin hasn’t gone off the deep end like Axl Rose.
